Genres: Psychological Thriller, Serial Killer Thriller, Series, Dark Romance

If you haven’t noticed I really like reading books that came before their trending movies/ tv shows or what have you to see what the hype is about. The book is usually exceedingly better. This one was actually recommended to me a week or two before the tv show hit Netflix and blew up in popularity.

YOU really is such an intricate story that takes readers down dark pathways such as stalking, parental issues, adultery, and even murder.

It is INTENSE, dark, original, and so disturbing and I could not put it down.

It’s Different; Hot.

When Guinevere Beck treads into Joe Goldberg’s bookstore one afternoon, he is instantly drawn to her, OBSESSED- literally. After typing the name from her credit card into Google, he easily gains access to her multiple public social profiles and learns everything that he needs to set up ‘chance’ meetings.

Joe gets to know Beck slowly, hacking her accounts, reading personal pieces that she puts together for her followers. We learn quickly that Beck has a lot of issues going on in her head as well.

Joe gains control of Beck’s life without her knowing, and manipulates interactions between her and friends, family, and even her psychiatrist. As he moves from stalker to boyfriend, he makes it clear that he will do ANYTHING to keep his place in Beck’s life, meticulously removing any hurdles and derailing the lives of anyone that threatens to disrupt their relationship- even abduction and murder.

What I love about this book is that even though the main character is a ‘bad person’, it really delves into his deepest thoughts I found myself making excuses for Joe, and even rooting for him as he carried out his twisted schemes to win Beck over. (Is that terrible?)

It also makes you question the world’s easy access to every one of our online presence. It makes you realize how vulnerable and susceptible we can become in this digital age to stalking or worse, all of our personal information just a few clicks away from anyone’s disposal.

Dark romance, thriller, psychological, stalker, manipulation, mental illness

A look at mental illness, how far someone will go for ‘love’. A look into how you can know nothing about someone or LITERALLY EVERYTHING depending on your motives.

“The only thing crueler than a cage so
small that a bird can’t fly is a cage so
large that a bird thinks it can fly.”

“If we were teenagers, I could kiss you. But I’m on a platform behind a counter wearing a name tag and we’re too old to be young.”

“You grow through love. You don’t postpone love until you stop growing.”

“If you knew what I went through to get into your home, that I messed up my back trying to know you, inside and out, you’d judge me for it.”

“Some people, it’s like they care more about their status updates than their actual lives.”
