This book is FUNNY you guys. I have gotten friends who despise reading to read this book and they thank me for it later.

I read this book when my oldest was still a baby and then re-read it this past week and I find it just as hilarious today as I did then.

I’ll start by saying that this isn’t REALLY a parenting guide, so if you’re looking for real solid advice this book may not be for you.

What you will get out of it is an hour and a half straight of laughing your ass off at the authors’ takes on some of the tough situations that we as parents find ourselves in.

Although the books ‘advice’ is not meant to be taken literally, I did get a few good insights on my own parenting style and it gave me perspective on the unnecessary pressure parents put on themselves sometimes. I find myself referencing passages in this book either in my head or out loud often, when I’m feeling overwhelmed or mom guilt, and it cheers me up.

Sh*tty Moms has something for all parents: Single moms, single dads, married parents, old moms, old dads, adoptive moms- it’s all inclusive.

I could go on and on about Sh*tty Moms, but I will just include a few quotes below that speak for themselves.

Parenting, working moms, stay at home moms, single moms, only child, multiple children, overcoming mom guilt, mom shaming

A humorous take on parenting ‘rules’ and redefining them

Notable Quotes:

Like prostitutes, babysitters are paid cash to do things that you do for free.

McDonald’s understands that if you actually wanted to play with your kids, you’d be at the park.

“I have so much love to give.” No, you don’t. Look at how you snapped at the barista who accidentally put whole milk in your skim latte. Honey, you are tapped out.

Everybody warns new parents about the lack of sleep and the endless expenses but really the worst part is that, for the rest of your life, your heart can be broken.

If the Foo Fighters represent music from your youth, the Springsteen Moms request that you stop reading for a moment and flip yourself off. Thank you.

Sh* tty Mom is about shortcuts and parenting with 40 percent effort. It’s about doing a half-assed job, but doing it well enough so that no one but you notices.

Even more demoralizing than the “Me Too Mom” is the “ ‘Me Too, And’ Mom.” While the “Me Too Mom” is just a better version of you, the “‘ Me Too, And’ Mom” lives your life … with an added degree of difficulty that makes everything harder. And she does it with a better attitude. She’s a saint. You’re a shit.

Remember: “Dog” spelled backward is “God.” And “kid” spelled backward is “dik.”
